Unbroken

Learned by time weighed by trials stood in the midst of danger and yet here I stand
Tried by men judged by hate and fear and I stand Judged by my past in a future that has not yet come Condemned by those that confess forgiveness only to chain me down and yet I stand Determined to rise above the ashes awaiting this phoe- nix to take flight and shine upon all Becoming a light refusing to bow this soul won’t bend refusing to be broken made of steel with a undying spirit

Sometimes I just want to scream
Middle finger saluting the world
For some reason this feels right
Not hold back
Releasing the anger and pain
Can’t hold it in anymore
No more leashes
The loin is free

Up in Smoke

Crumble me up
break all that keeps me together
pluck out my bones
pluck out my seeds
Open the blunt
lay me out
in a line
Roll me up tight
set me ablaze
You treat me as your drug
getting high from my misery
laughter from my pain
Inhaling these things
Watching my essence
go up in smoke
being taken by the ceiling fan
traveling with the winds
pieces of my life
burning in red embers
slowly I wither

Work in Progress

Despite the sweat that burns my eyes
No matter the countless tears cried
The ones that want to struggle
Earning bread by my muscles
In the dark, hoping to be free
Hoping God has a plan for me
His work is hard to see
Many nights on my knees
Begging please
The end of the tunnel
I have yet to see
Bur still moving on
My days here have been long
Filled with misery
My boss seems like she’s out to get me
Where is my drink
To deal with this pain
At times, my life seems like a game
Still pushing on
Freedom is my song
Until they lay me to rest

Recession

Bills pile up
Paychecks barely stop them
Debt sneaks up like a thief
Trying to save
Money goes in reverse
The faster it’s made
The faster it burns
Lacking food
Lacking sleep
Hearing promises for change
But it doesn’t happen on my street
Working for half my worth
Making miracles to buy food

Today

Today is the day
to reach higher than before
to go where few have dared
to become more than what you were yesterday
It’s time to touch a star
reach to grasp your dream
It’s time to break your chains
shake free of those that have been holding you down
notice yesterday
See the mistakes
strive beyond them
Today let nothing hold you back
shine like a star
let darkness be no more
your light can no longer be contained
become the sun within your world
power is yours

Define Me

So many masks to put on
So many parts to play upon stage
They all fail to define me
Working to place food upon the table
Wearing countless labels
The labels fail to define me
The place where I’m from
Will not govern where I go
Places where I’ve been may cause concern
Far from an angel
But so much more
Pain learned through struggles
Hard times don’t describe my life
Pushing beyond all that seen
In hopes that People may see me
In all the roles played
